I have always loved skulls and other morbid things, so if there was ever an exhibit I was meant to see, it was this one! Death by Natural Causes is currently on display at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. This exhibit is meant to introduce patrons to the range of “animal, vegetable and mineral” dangers that lurk in their everyday lives. I enjoyed learning about paints, dyes, foods, plants, animals and other random objects that can cause demise. I’ll be honest though, there was one specific piece that made me pay the price of admission and that was The Laocoön & His Sons skeletal recreation by The Wilde Collection. It is absolutely breathtaking! There is fantastic history behind this sculpture, and I highly encourage you to read more about it and look at the side-by-side picture comparisons on The Wilde Collection’s Facebook page. I was so excited to see this in person, and it did not disappoint! It was such a fun day, and I’m so glad the HMNS took a chance and curated something like this.
